053: From NFL Player to Author/Speaker with Thomas Williams
Today I have a treat for you as I speak with Thomas Williams who played football at USC and in the NFL. Thomas is now an author and speaker who spends his time sharing his passion to help others achieve their dreams and be GREAT!

- Everything we learn, it may take a while to understand it, but once we have it, we have it
- Learned by playing around great players to be inspired and translate pain into power
- Used defeats to create challenge and turn them into a game
- Play all out all the time and master your craft
- You can differentiate yourself by being willing to get dirty and do the hard work that sets you apart
- Got drafted and achieved dream, then got cut had had to train and work hard without getting paid
- You can never see what’s going on behind closed doors and if you quit too early, you miss out on some important lessons
- Wouldn’t be as successful teaching now if he had not gone through those struggles
- You may hate challenges and struggles now but they are going to pay off later with experience
- Now owns a consulting, training, speaking company
- Helps entrepreneurs transition from where they are to where they want to be
- Sat down and thought about what he likes and enjoys doing
- Want to show the world how possible impossibilities are
- Thomas admits to being lucky for having financial security from NFL and found advisors who helped him build the brand and the business
- Thomas did his first 40 speaking engagements for free to build up reputation
- It won’t be like this forever, keep working hard and get past these humps
- Got encouraged by friends to write a book - Permission to Dream
- Help student athletes at collegiate and HS level transition into career/business
- Have a structure, but don’t be afraid to allow change or something new
- To make a transition, you have to understand who you are and what you are and where you want to go
- People need something to look forward to
- The most successful people are obsessed with their business
- Mistakes: getting frustrated with market not meeting expectations
- Need to understand burn rate and where money is going and how much
